Clueless

edited October 2012 in General Discussion
Per the hammer announce post.

10. In all cases we will slowly remove any areas from the game that have these creatures. There may always be a couple little goblins or demons running around, but their threat will be completely, totally, irrevocably, and permanently removed from Imperian.

So, if demons get taken out, does that mean I lose my "demonic" lamia as an assassin?

  • It seems to me it's only going to affect mobs, i.e. the ones associated with the ongoing storyline, not player or skill-related demons.

    At least, hopefully not.
  • Player skills will remain intact, this is more about further events, areas, that kind of things.
  • Heh, well if bashing areas are included, I guess I can forget about demons going away. DP saves the day.

  • I don't think they are.

If it were on my shoulders, I would pick demons simply to stop the annoying Suhkder 'pull the moon closer and summon demons' roleplay forever.

The horde is a cooler enemy, and undead fill the 'nameless villain' niche well enough. The fact that it would simultaneously get rid of one of the most boringly designed bashing areas in the game is just a side note.
  • I think we will slowly change out the bashing areas. Replacing the mobs and quests as the mobs in them die out. Probably several little mini events as that happens.

Demons will still exist on the Demon plan to be summoned and enslaved, but they will have no way to actively enter and attack the world anymore.

  • So straight up is Demon's Pass (the only hunting area that really produces gold without the threat of 75 assassins attacking at once) going away if we pick demons? I gotta know.

No, but we will be changing it up. I do not want to get rid of bashing areas, but we will change out the mobs and quests to make sense with the RP direction change.

  • That's awesome, I just wanted the decision to be made based on the IC situation, and not because we were all afraid of losing DP.

  • AM really has little incentive to pick any side other than the demons. The Necropolis is close to Antioch but not exactly a threat, and the horde has harassed Kinsarmar and Stavenn far more than either Ithaqua or Antioch.

A chance to wipe out demons from the realm is exactly what they should be clawing after.
  • Not that is should really be a major decision in what you do here, but I always planned to make the Undead much more of a threat in the game. Obviously if they stick around, we are going to do a bunch more with them. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  • Personally, I want to wipe out the Horde. They've never had real personality, they've never been anything other than glorified bashing events. At least the demons had Aosoth and Nytid and Visyra and such who had some actual personalities aside from "Generic Horde Leader smash!"

"On the battlefield I am a god. I love war. The steel, the smell, the corpses. I wish there were more. On the first day I drove the Northmen back alone at the ford. Alone! On the second I carried the bridge! Me! Yesterday I climbed the Heroes! I love war! I… I wish it wasn’t over."

  • I think an argument could be made for any circle to want to finish off any faction. I am hoping for some differences, some excitement, and some fighting over the whole thing. But we shall see.

  • That's not an IC opinion. It's my OOC opinion that Demons are just fundamentally more interesting than anything I've ever seen out of the Horde, who seems to exist as nothing more than a generic way to create bashing events. I've never seen a leader with personality. I've never seen any hint of politics in the Horde. I've never seen conflicting issues in them, as they seem to exist to do nothing more than zerg at the cities. They're the most boring and generic of boring and generic antagonists.

  • Yeah, I would not disagree with that.

  • no matter the direction the event goes, the other factions can be made more interesting.
    I am the righteous one...
the claims are stated - it's the world I've created
  • I would agree with that as well. That is probably one of the top things on my list.

  • Horde can only be made so much more interesting. Demons are more fun. I'm fighting to kill the Horde because OOC, I find Horde to be nothing but an utterly one-dimensional enemy whose only purpose is to 'smash x towne'. That's all it is, and you can't do much more because it's been 10 years of characterization and you'd have done it by now. Demons busted out, had  REALLY cool leaders, and that really decided it for a lot of us.

  • In that sense though, I think that's why we want to kill them, or at least, the reason Gurn explains it to a lot of people. They're the most organized and powerful force we've seen, and so must be sealed away for the good of the realm. The Horde have always been a threat, but without the sheer power and leadership of the Demons. Because they were such great villains, they had to be destroyed.
  • You could do an awful lot with the Horde. I can think of a whole mess of interesting ideas to do with them. Warring factions, splinter groups allying with mortal factions over Horde political divisions, all sorts of things.

They've never DONE anything with them like that, but it's all very feasible.

  • Over time the horde are getting smarter and tougher (almost evolving) where they icewall and and carry battering rams and they have leaders who are firmly entrenched in hte game for a long time. As such that continuity is good and the possibility of them being a more major threat is appealing.

Eventually I'd love to see the horde as a playable race (once they become intelligent enough to make individual choices)

  • Yeah never heard of the Horde allying with a faction.  That sounds cool, how would that work?

  • I have a huge list of crazy crap for the horde and the undead. Should be fun.

It'd be pretty cool to have a horde org consisting of goblin/orc/ogre players, IMO. Most likely with demonic/magick professions (deathknight, mage, assassin, etc), but not really a part of the circle systems proper. You could even use it as an excuse to delete Celidon!

    That joke's still funny, right?

    Right?
  • Khizan's idea is great. What if we found out the Horde was as diverse as we were, with some eventually wanting to ally with us so they can usurp another faction, while others went all Kinsarmar on us and want to use a superweapon to wipe us from the face of Aetherius? Would make for really cool RP, IMO.
  • They are. At least they used to be. They made an attempt to diversify the horde into tribes way back in the day.
  • Yeah, the tribes were from me (unless more was done with that in the meantime). However, I have much cooler Horde stuff planned now. It will be few weeks, as I want to finish up our god war thing and roll out some crazy new Undead stuff first.

  • As long as they don't start jetpacking around with rocket launchers and trying to steal our flags, I'm fine with that.

Wait. What's wrong with that? :)

  • do love jetpacks...
