  • Is it sort of like demons vs. devils (Demons in this case) in D&D? Some are structured evil entities with a strict hierarchy that want organized conquest, the others just want to see the world burn?
  • Yeah, those help files are what I felt lacked the overarching context and just left me more confused. Yeah Avasyu had his head chewed off, but WHY?

Thanks for the rundown, that sort of broad-strokes story is what I wanted.
  • Perhaps this is a horrible idea, because I am not familiar with relics, their pros and cons, etc., but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

If relics in rooms are too powerful to the point where nobody will ever fight in a r…
  • I agree with that last part in particular. I can't buy credits but I have Elite. The Surcoat is awesome but 750 credits would take forever to save up to (8 months, I think?). If I could get a Surcoatlite after some kind of achievement that'd be awes…
  • I remember having a similar conversation last year here. The best kind of evil is the evil that thinks itself good.

Nah, I meant more of a... I was worried that the whole evil archetype would appeal mainly to people who wanted t…

  • Absolutely love how welcoming everybody in Demonic has been. Given the whole "evil" vibe, I was worried people would be cold, harsh, or impatient with new players, but I'm glad to see it's such a fantastic group.

    I'm excited to …

  • Yeah. I suppose it if turns out to not be my cuppa tea, there's always Edric to go back to.

How easy is it to pick fights? Would people typically respond well to it? I don't mean going to a popular area and trapping/killing newb…
  • Ahh, I see what you mean. So it's more of a meta-game issue, by the sound of it? Meta is shifting from spam-damage to spam-afflock permastun or something of the sort?

On that note, if that is an undesirable direction for the ga…
  • (Quote) That sounds great, honestly. Out of sheer curiosity, what circle gave you that impression? I played AM last year, and there was a big crowd that seemed interested in joining/learning. This time around I'm going to give Demonic a try, just t…
  • (Quote) I was following right up to this point. What do you mean? The way I see it, everybody wants to play the same game: come up with an offence, use it on people, win. Do this in solo fights or in team fights around objectives. The "…
  • @Iniar for (2), why? Is it too spammy and not capable of blocking (I'm sure that's not the right word) like other clients?

    Also thanks for the q…
  • That's fine, perhaps I'm just approaching this the wrong way. Maybe all it takes is a few noobs to start dying a bunch to invite other noobs to give it a try.

I have a few other questions, but I don't want to clutter the forums…
  • @Iniar
For pretty much the entire time I played, PvP consisted of the 5 super amazing artied-out pro PvP people from AM against their equivalents in Magick. They…
  • He should add that to his resume. "good guy". It can go below "kinslayer, adulterer, (attempted) murderer of children, practitioner of black arts".

But I totally agree on bad guys thinking they're the good guys. They're usually more fun …
  • My favorite kind of evil is where you can't just sit back and go "Oh yeah, this is totally the bad guy," where motivations and moral ambiguity create a lot of gray area. Like the kind of "evil" in Stannis Baratheon or Tywin Lannister.
  • I heart the Outrider class. Seriously, it's feels like such a cool, cohesive concept for a character.

Having just watched How to Train Your Dragon 2 doesn't hurt either.

  • (Quote) What do you mean? I haven't seen any deathsight messages yet, but can you give me one of the more colorful examples?
  • They've been mentioned here, but I figured I'd give these shows a +1: Suits, Scandal, American Horror Story. I've liked what I've seen of those three so far.
  • "They'll get more from social interaction with guilds through bashing trips, global bosses, advancement systems, and the overall PVE environment than they will in PVP."

I agree, but I think it would be cool if we could also add PvP into …
  • (Quote) Thank you! I was hoping somebody from that demographic trolled around in the forums with the rest of us. We've gone off on a bit of a tangent, but you'll notice that originally the topic was about making PvE more engaging, parti…
  • (Quote) I haven't been here long enough to know the numbers, but I believe you. I would argue that if PvP were more balanced and accessible, a great majority of this PvE enjoying demographic would also prefer PvP. I don't know if that's a safe assu…
  • I think guilds have a very solid purpose in guiding newbies. Imperian is a completely open game and it is what you make of it, but a lot of people will want some kind of direction when they first start. Guilds guarantee that you can have immediate a…
  • I think bashing serves the purpose of "safe" progression where nobody loses. Not everybody wants to participate in pvp (which makes me sad) so if you remove the sense of advancement from bashing then there is little left for that demographic. Sure, …
  • (Quote) I agree with this 100%. As a new player, I've seen a bit of a brick wall in this area. I'll elaborate:
    1. Bashing is boring. We want RP and we want PK. The game is coded very heavily to favor both of these.
  • I <3 killing somebody with wyrm's gorge for the first time. It was visceral and gross and reminded me why I love this game.

  • Kind of a related question (figured it doesn't need its own post, I spam these forums enough already). When you play multiple characters--are they related? Do they even know of each other? Do you ever play them simultaneously, for whatever reason?
  • (Quote) Awesome! Has this been said by Jeremy somewhere that I missed?
  • I think that's good advice for now. And I also think that the fact that I consider that good advice is a strong indicator that something is kinda wrong with the bashing system, hence the proposal.
  • (Quote) I agree, I really don't want to play a text version of "Diablo 3 single-player." But when my only method of advancing is bashing anyway because my level is too low and anybody I try to PK at the moment would stomp me, bashing is a necessar…
