You can only attack an obelisk if you build up the necessary energy (800000), with zero upkeep you can only gain at moat 250k energy per IG month (25 RL hours, the energy count is tabulated based on IG month roll and not RL dayroll). Each item you control costs 20k energy, unless you have efficiency which reduces upkeep by 1/5 (or, 16k energy).
What does this mean? It means that even accounting previously built up energy, Stavenn couldn't possibly have been as thoroughly destroyed as you implied.
As far as the system in general, here is the way I see it: Stavenn won the old system hands down. Now, I'll acknowledge it might not have been fair given demonic's concentration in one city (though I'll contend AM shouldn't suffer from this problem since anybody who wants to be an active fighter goes to Antioch, Ithaqua is where a character goes to die/bludgeon through Antioch's bureaucracy), but even given this advantage it was still a victory. Now everything is set up circle vs. circle, while I would prefer that demonic had an ally, at the very least this provides a great challenge. And the way I figure it, if this results in Stavenn having zero chance? Then obviously the obelisks need to be tweaked again.

Ok, yeah I can see where that would mean that they couldn't fly down to zero obelisks. But if it was as bad as Menoch was thinking then AM and M would both have just destroyed Stavenn, unless Im missing what Menoch was getting at which, I admit, could be true. But as of now AM has two and magick has none.
but I'm done arguing
